Political Commentary
Not so inspiring but good enough
by Rick Kelly
Mitt Romney offers decent policies, and he's proven himself a hard worker, with growing campaign skills. The question is whether a victory in the primary will give him the confidence to break out, to take some risks, and to excite a nation that wants real change. In a presidential election, good enough might not be enough to win. It is true, Romney does not exactly inspire Republicans and conservatives, but if he is in fact the eventual nominee, then it truly behooves both to get behind Romney. Moderate independents and those more conservative will most likely find Romney more appealing than Obama. Obama has already demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt that he lacks the ability to lead, and his penchant for placing the blame for everything on everyone else is certainly not an attractive character trait for a President. Overall, the country has not yet benefited positively from any of his original policies and regardless of any future political crisis (real or manufactured) before the election, Obama's track record for partisan, divisiveness, blaming congress for ineffectiveness, (while true, as President he should have been an effective leader), and using the bully pulpit for fomenting class warfare are all reasons that should not endear him to a sizable portion of independents. Romney, while maybe not exactly the ideal choice, certainly is a decent option. Mitt Romney is the best we've got this cycle. He is intelligent, competent, serious, and there is no personal baggage that I have heard about. He may not have the soaring rhetoric, but I believe he will make a fine president. And look where soaring rhetoric got us with Barack Obama. I know it is still early but in my humble opinion we have seen, heard, and vetted the various candidates sufficiently. Mitt Romney is good enough and I think he will be much better than that as President.

From the moment Rick Santorum announced that he is suspending his presidential campaign, it was clear that political observers were right to assume that Mitt Romney will be the Republican nominee for president this autumn. He deserves to be congratulated to. But if you look his total political situation, somehow it does not seem so fantastic. The past 12 months of campaigning did not made Romney stronger. Only 34% of Americans have a positive view of Romney, which makes...

Whatever they do, a political spouses can do very little to help wining the contest. Ann Romney, wife of Mitt Romney, is in spotlight at the moment. Romney has increasingly turned to his wife to help shore up his support with women, who polls show strongly back President Barack Obama. She is to make her husband- more likeable. A good first lady-to-be is to humanize the candidate. Showing off the loving, playful or family-minded side of a hard-charging presidential ca...

Over the last nine months Republican pragmatists could not produce a candidate with a proven appeal to moderates outside the party. It looks like they have decided to follow their hart instead of mind. They simply didn’t think it through and the result is- Mitt Romney. There you are, they have a candidate they don't like and still, somehow they are stuck with. There’s no point of continuing primaries, it becomes counterproductive if this drags on much longer, s...

Rick Santorum has lost it. Seriously! I understand that running for president must be an exhausting experience. Specially in the campaign that is going on forever and has bored everyone to death. Republican camp should think about changing the course, or in general, changing anything. It’s too much. Santorum does not what to say any more. He just goes for anything, at this stage. For example, recently he suggested that the United States might as well reelect Obama rath...

When you think Rick Santorum couldn’t do more to antagonize Republican Party and Latino voters- here comes the surprise! During the Puerto Rico primary campaign he decided to give a new life to The Official English movement. "I've said repeatedly that as a condition for admission that people would, who could, speak both languages. But they would also have to speak English, that would be a requirement," Santorum said. There was a major uproar in Puerto Rico,...

So many pundits are implying that if Gingrich or Santorum will drop out of the race votes of one who leaves will go for one who stay because they are both conservative. But since when did the term "conservative" only apply to social conservatives? What has happened to the original Tea Party message? When it comes to fiscal discipline and economic freedom, Santorum is clearly the more liberal candidate. Santorum hails from Pennsylvania, yet he still supported Big Lab...

I know, Romney took six out of the 10 Super Tuesday states and he probably owns the title of Republican frontrunner. But frontrunner does not mean nominee. To become nominee, even when you are frontrunner, you have to play very long and excruciating game. Campaign is turning into a step-by-step, day-by-day struggle towards the nomination. It’s almost painful to watch. Romney has six of 10 states but in only three of the 10 states – Idaho, Massachusetts and Virg...

Mitt Romney pledged during a campaign to repeal the Sarbanes-Oxley corporate accounting overhaul. After Mr. Romney vowed to repeal President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul and the Dodd-Frank financial regulation law, a voters are asking him whether his list of repeals would include Sarbanes-Oxley, as well. “Yes,” Mr. Romney said. “People who have spent their life in Washington in many cases … don’t understand that when they write a pi...

The political-intelligence industry thought it scored a great success when Republicans yanked a provision from a bill that would have forced firms to register their activities. Now it is confronting the possibility that the legislation - more broadly aimed at banning insider-trading in Congress - could put the entire industry in jeopardy. As securities lawyers and industry executives examine the legislation more closely, they say it could prohibit lawmakers and their staffs f...

If you have had enough of the Republican contest, debates and all the fuss around them and their candidate, I’ve got news for you- fight could stretch into the springtime. The race is turbulent ad full of surprises. Newt Gingrich has come back and stands there with Romney, Santorum and Ron Paul. Republican voters have delivered three different winners in the first three stops in the nominating contest and it’s clear they are in no rush to settle on their nominee. ...
