GUIDELINES FOR USING PRESS THE PRESIDENT
I. About Press the President
Press the President is a collaborative blog that allows individuals across the U.S. to write opinion pieces on current issues and topics they feel passionately about. The goal of Press The President is to create a space where writers can express their opinions freely. It also encourages Americans to get involved in the issues that shape today’s world. All of the content is user-generated.
II. Registering for Press the President
a. In order to submit an article or comment on other articles, you must be registered with Press the President.
b. You can register one of three ways:
i. Direct link to Registration Page: http://www.pressthepresident.com/show.jsp?register=show
ii. Click “Register” on the top of the Press the President’s homepage.
You will then be asked to provide a short biography for public use. You are not required to provide any information in this biography, but we highly recommend adding a biography so that users can learn more about you.
iii. Click the “Sign in with Facebook” button located in the top left corner of the website to register via your Facebook account, if you already have one.
III. Contributing an Article
a. In the blue bar at the top of the screen, click “Write.”
b. You will automatically be asked to log in if you have not already.
c. After you log in, you first need to fill in the title of the article. The title should use buzzwords that will help readers find your article when searching for topics.
d. Next, choose a category that best fits the topic of your article. Very generic topics such as “United States” or “Boats” are not recommended.
e. Next, enter the text of your article. Posted articles should be ~500 words and should be newsworthy and researched topics.
IV. Searching for Articles
a. There are two ways to search for articles:
i. The first is to type a keyword or the name of an author into the blue search bar in the top right-hand corner of the homepage.
ii. Another is to click the “Browse All” tab in the blue bar on the homepage. This will bring you to a page with various topics. Select a topic of interest in the list and all related articles will appear.
iii. You can click the “Trending” tab to see popular and recent articles.
V. Contributing to a Debate
a. In order to contribute to a debate through Press the President’s website, you must be logged in. See Section One.
i. Once you are logged in, click on the debate banner which contains the debate question located on the right-hand corner.
ii. You will then be able to contribute to the debate, vote and explain your vote by leaving a comment.
b. You can participate in the debate through Press the President’s Facebook account.
i. In order to do this, you must have a registered Facebook account.
ii. Each week, Press the President posts the new debate topic on their Facebook page.
iii. Please note that Press the President will show your Facebook name and the way you voted on our page.
VI. Contributing to a Poll
a. In order to contribute to a poll through Press the President’s website, you must be logged in. See Section One.
i. Once you are logged in, click on “Polls & Votes” in the blue bar at the top of the homepage.
ii. You will then be able to place your vote.
VII. Becoming Part of the Blog Roll
a. Press the President is happy to feature contributing writers’ blogs on our own blog roll which can be viewed on the homepage.
b. The blog roll is a list of blogs that we follow and we encourage you to submit your own blog once you have published an article for Press the President.
c. You can do this by clicking on the Contact button located in the footer of the website.
VIII. Contributing a Video
a. To contribute a video, you must first be registered as an author with Press the President. See Section One.
b. To submit a video,
i. Click the “MAKE your own VIDEO” button in the lower section of the website
ii. Click the “UPLOAD” button to select a video file.
iii. Enter the title and description in the provided fields and when you're finished click the “Save and publish” button.
iv. After the upload process is complete view your video by clicking the “View video” button. Your video will be available in a few minutes.
c. Guidelines for Uploading Videos:
All videos must be original content. This means users may not upload videos they didn't make, or use content in videos that someone else owns the copyright to outside the guidelines of fair use, such as music tracks, snippets of copyrighted programs, or videos made by other users, without their permission. In addition, any video containing nudity, profanity, violence, graphic content, drugs, derogatory comments, personal attacks or slander towards others will be removed.
Anything that is considered spam or an advertisement will also be removed. By uploading a video to Press The President, you also agree to allow Press The President to use the video, in part or in whole, in promotion of this website while still retaining ownership.
